De bons présages ( Good Omens: The Nice and Accurate Prophecies of Agnes Nutter, Witch) est un roman de fantasy écrit par Terry Pratchett et Neil Gaiman, et paru en 1990, adapté ensuite en mini série.

Dieu et Satan ont décidé que l’Apocalypse aurait lieu demain. A Londres, un ange secondaire, libraire, et un petit démon, dandy amateur de rock et de grosses cylindrées, envoyés permanents de Dieu et Satan sur terre, sont chargés de son organisation. Habitués aux joies de la vie terrestre, ils décident de saboter cette entreprise et d’abuser leurs patrons.

Le livre est réjouissant et vos ne serez pas déçus non plus par la série, dont l’adaptation est signée par Neil Gaiman lui-même, à la demande de Terry Pratchett peu de temps avant sa mort.

L’université de Cambridge a lancé mardi un appel pour retrouver deux carnets de notes de Charles Darwin qu’elle conservait dans sa bibliothèque, et qu’elle considère désormais comme volés. L’un d’eux contient l’esquisse d’ »arbre de la vie » du naturaliste, devenu symbole de sa théorie de l’évolution.

Head there after dark over the five days of the festival to see them glowing.

Sure, all of London’s museums and galleries are closed, but Tate Britain wasn’t about to let lockdown 2.0 get in the way of things. The museum’s new annual winter commission, unveiled this week, is a dazzling display of lights by Chila Kumari Burman taking over the front of the gallery to celebrate Diwali. It’s an eye-popping patchwork of neons, Bollywood and glitter, and if that doesn’t give you a little bit of cheer through lockdown, nothing will. Tate Britain. Nov 14th until the end of January. For a lot of Londoners, Notting Hill Carnival flashes by in a blaze of feathers, Red Stripe and tinnitus. To those who make it happen, it is a year-round operation, and its cancellation has been devastating for many involved.

It did not come as a surprise; the organisers had held off on the announcement in the hope that the situation might improve, leaving many to speculate on when, not whether, the event would be called off for the first time in its 54-plus-year history. But it looks like ‘cancelled’ isn’t the right word after all. Behind the scenes, the Carnival community has rallied together to take it from the streets and into cyberspace with a streamed version of the event on the August Bank Holiday weekend.

Notting Hill Carnival Access All Areas 2020 will be streamed for free over four channels on Aug 29, 6pm-midnight and Aug 30 and 31, 9am-11pm. For details visit www.nhcarnival.org
